The project was implemented by the Woman Health and Family Planning Foundation in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, with financial support from the European Union.
Project duration: February–July 2025.
Project Implementation Results:
- Comprehensive Assessment: A comprehensive assessment of cervical cancer screening in the Cherkasy region was conducted, covering screening coverage statistics, diagnostic laboratory capacities, patient pathways, and the capacity of healthcare workers to provide quality services.
- Working Group & Regional Standards: By order of the Department of Health of the Cherkasy Regional State Administration, an intersectoral Working Group was established to implement and coordinate the cervical cancer screening program in accordance with the Ministry of Health standards and approved regional regulatory documents (patient pathways for various types of facilities).
- Capacity Building: A cascade of offline and online CPD-certified (Continuous Professional Development) training sessions was conducted. Primary and specialized healthcare workers, as well as healthcare facility managers, participated in the training. The program was developed based on WHO recommendations and national standards.
- Awareness Campaign: An information and educational campaign on cervical cancer prevention and HPV vaccination was carried out. Educational materials were provided to medical facilities across the Cherkasy region.
- National Conference & Scaling: In cooperation with WHO and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, a National Conference was held to present the results of the Pilot Project and discuss prospects and pathways for implementing modern cervical cancer screening programs in other regions of Ukraine.
